Gigha

Gigha

The name for this island in the days of those old Norse folk was 'Gud-oy' meaning either God's Island or the Good Island, by the sounds of things they really were the good old days then, but of course no offence is meant - Gigha is still a lovely island and well worth a visit. Just off the southerly point of Gigha you can see Gigalum Island and to the west is Craro Island. These two islands are little more than big lumps of rock as so as yet have no further mention on this site, however, more info may follow as this sight is updated. Gigha covers an area of 1,395 hectares (3,447 acres) with a single road running from its northern to southernmost points. Not being a particularly hilly island, its highest hill Creag Bahn stands at 100m (328 ft). The population of 143 people taken from the 1991 census is about the same to date.
