Lismore

The Gaelic name of Lios-mór is translatable into 'big garden'. A long and thin island slanting left from its southwestern tip to its northeastern point, it covers an area of 2,351 hectares (5,809 acres) . The highest point on the island is known as Barr Mór - 'Big Tip' - which stands at a height of 127m (417 ft). The population of Lismore as it stood in 1991 was 140. Bernera Island, actually more of a peninsula strictly speaking, is to be seen from the west coast of the island.
